Hello! My name is Kate Masoian. I am from Boston, Massachusetts, working in Abu Dhabi for The New England Center for Children. I have been working here in Abu Dhabi since August 2013. I began my teaching career back in 2010 at The New England Center. I am currently in my final semester of the Simmons Graduate Program for Severe Special Education.
I am also perusing a graduate certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis from the University of South Florida. In my spare time I love to travel, read a good book, and do anything outdoors on a nice day! I love adventure and experiencing new things. I am constantly thinking of the future and what else I can accomplish. I believe there is always more to learn and I am reassured of that every day at work. My students teach me more than I could ever read from a text book and for that I am so grateful. I hope that I teach them just as much as they teach me!
I heard about GoalsUAE from a few of my students who regularly participate. I decided to check it out one Wednesday afternoon to see what it was all about. After the first few minutes of being there I knew that this program was a wonderful opportunity for everyone involved. The kids are able to practice their social skills, work on their coordination and gross motor skills, practice following directions from their coaches, and so much more. Not only that, they were all having fun doing it! It was a no brainer for me. I wanted to be involved in this outstanding program. Just after volunteering for a few weeks, I could see improvements in all of the kids’ skills, both soccer and otherwise.
The coaches are patient, kind, and simply fabulous! Individuals with Autism are often disregarded, but what GoalsUAE has done, and is doing, is bringing awareness to the UAE. It is giving these amazing kids an opportunity to shine. I am proud to say I am a GoalsUAE volunteer!!
